Bhai Dooj [Bhaiya Duj] 2009 Celebration with SMS

Bhai Dooj or Bhaiya Duj is on Monday, 19^th October 2009. Sisters in India are excited for this festival and eagerly wait for this day each year. We are going to tell you the Bhai Dooj Story or Katha. Brothers and Sisters send Bhai Dooj SMS to each other on this day to wish this Hindu festival.

The fifth day of 5 day long celebration of Deepawali is called Bhai Dooj. It shows the love of brother and sister. Sisters pray to God for their long age. It is called Bhai Dooj as it falls on the 2nd day after the kartik’s new moon which Dooj day. [smartads]

Bhai Dooj Katha (Story)

As per the old religious scriptures, Yamaraj who is the death God went to meet his sister at her home after a long time. Yami, his sister was very glad to see her brother and received him by putting propitious mark on her brother’s forehead for his well being. The God of death was very pleased with his sister’s welcome; he said that every year, on dooj day of kartik month, if a sister do tilak her brother’s forehead, then her brother will be safe from any destruction or harm.

There is another story about Bhai Dooj. After killing the king of asura, Narkasur, He went to meet Subhadra,his sister. She welcomed her brother by doing tilak on his forehead and showing him a light in Arti. From that day, Bhai Duj is being celebrated.
