By Sonam Tangri - Friday, March 5th, 2010 10:31 am

Food Inc.,  the movie has been nominated as best documentary, for the Oscars 2010, is giving a hard time to corn farmers as the cameras have brought forth audiences, the behind-the-scenes view of the food industry, some of its stomach-turning practices by giving a quick look at the slaughterhouses & chicken farms, feedlots used by corporate farming, in order to support consumers to purchase close by grown, organic foods that are not mass grown.

The corn industry is whipping out at the Oscar-nominated documentary, as it has grossed out grocery shoppers, claiming to be unfair to nation’s farmers hence shouldn’t win.

National Corn Growers Association, which is the industry’s largest trade group has encouraged corn farmers to fight back and get word out in the media and by using social networking sites like Facebook in order to refute the documentary in its final days prior to

Oscar even though the official voting for Sunday’s Academy Awards is over.

According to an alert sent to member farmers, the reputation of America’s farmers is likely to suffer significantly if they do not shoot down their arguments with truthful and credible information.

The movie has featured, Michael Pollan, author of “The Omnivore’s Dilemma,” and also the author of “Fast Food Nation,” Eric Schlosser, whose books have credited galvanizing opposition to industrial agriculture. The movie faucets the nation’s industrial food system, which is a growing social movement.

President of the corn group, a corn grower from Hurley, S.D. Darrin Ihnen, said movie makes him insane, as the movie has ignored several good things about America’s larger farms, like environmentally friendly practices, efforts to feed the world’s hungry, instead it has focused on the chemicals used to fatten up chickens and cattle, deaths from E. coli poisoning, has also criticized genetically engineered crops and cross practices at livestock processes.

Also nation’s obesity epidemic & soaring rates of diabetes, has been blamed to widespread use of corn.

Darrin Ihnen also said that in today’s time, USA has the globe’s most reasonable food & plentiful supply due to the same agricultural practices that have been attacked in the film.[smartads]

Since corn industry, is 1 of many food industries attacked in the movie, there is a requirement to lift voice to fight. Darrin Ihnen also said that in today’s time, USA has the globe’s most reasonable food & plentiful supply due to the same agricultural practices that have been attacked in the film.

I thought it was the best documentary that I’ve have ever seen.

    • now that we are aware of what the big business and the industralist are doing to our health and mother earth, let’s get the word out to as many mothers as we can!! as mothers we are mostly in charge of feeding our childern and doing the marketing , so now we have to much more aware of what and where it comes from and what chemicals the have used on it and if it is still safe for humans to consume! we all can learn so much more , the documentary was just the beginning !!

  2. Randall says:

This was an eye opening documentary. This changed for good our entire family eating habits. This is a GOOD thing. If we treated animals and workers with RESPECT and HUMILITY we wouldn’t be where we are now with this safety last profit first system we have. I don’t believe the corn industry for a MINUTE.

    • RESPECT FOR CHILDERN WHO MATURE AT TO YOUNG OF AGE. RESPECT FOR THE WOMEN WHO ARE UNABLE TO HAVE CHILERN . RESPECT FOR ALL WHOM THIS INDUSTRY HAS MADE SICK AND DIED!! REAPECT FOR THE LIVESTOCK OF ALL TYPES! RESPECT FOR MOTHER EARTH AND NO MORE CHEMICALS ON OR IN ANY OF THR FOOD PRODUCTS.MAYBE SOME OF THE ABOVE CONDITIONS COULD BE PREVENTED IF WE BECOME MORE AWARE!!

  3. this is a very eye openig documentary ! we will be eating more carefully from now on and giveing more respect to the cows and pigs and chickens that we consume . we will be buying more at the farmers market now rhen ever befor!! keep up the good work and get this message out there to all of the meat eaters out there to be very careful , to know where it comes from!!

  4. very good documentary that should wake up all of us as to what big business is doing to the health of all of us and to the livestock that we are eating ! why are there so many women unable to have childern? would it be the chemical they are feed the livestck and treating the vegestables with? what about our young girls who are matureing at eight and nine years ols? hormones in the food, maybe! we now willbe buying more at our farmers market. RESPECT is needed for all of us involved in this dangerous game that big business is playing!

As a mother in the midwest who tries to make a living feeding the rest of you this documentary is full of the same manure they show over and over as their proof of the irresponsible actions of the agricultural industry as a whole. How many of you “good” mothers are going to deny your children vegetables and fruit in the winter when your roadside farmers markets are closed? And, how many of you are going to scream bloody murder when your food budget goes through the roof. Anyone who accepts money from the Humane Society of America deserves only contempt. I am guessing if you dig deeper you will find sizable contributions from PETA as well. Talk about propaganda. I wonder what would happen if any of you bothered to check the facts. Saying everyone in agriculture is evil is the equivalent of saying every investor is like Bernie Madoff and every politician is like John Edwards.
