Sumatra Coast Struck by a Strong Earthquake

Sumatra (Indonesia) - The list of never ending earthquakes that are hitting across the globe increased with an earthquake of 6.5 magnitude striking Sumatra in Indonesia on Friday night. The Sumatra earthquake struck on the southwest region as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Sumatra quake occurred around 11 pm and its epicenter was in 100 miles west of Bengkulu in Sumatra, Indonesia and 215 miles south of Padang in Sumatra, Indonesia according to USGS. It was 13.7 miles deep.

No immediate deaths or injuries have been reported from the Sumatra earthquake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center didn’t find any immediate Tsunami occurring because of the Sumatra earthquake. The Indonesian Meteorological and Geophysics Agency also was against issuing a tsunami warning yet.

The Sumatra earthquake comes at a time when regions in Haiti and Chile are already facing the brunt of massive earthquakes. The resultant tsunami occurring due to the quakes is also adding to the damage. What will be the consequences will Indonesia have to face of this Sumatra earthquake would have to seen.
