MUMBAI, 31st May (DLN): Bahujan Vikas Agadhi Party (Hitendra Thakur lead) became the winner of the Vasai Virar Mahanagarpalika 2010 elections, on the outer edged of north Mumbai, gaining 55 of the 89 zones.
After the Vasai Virar Mahanagarpalika 2010 elections results, Thakur told “We had expected to win over 50 wards and we got it. I thank all those who had faith in the party and those who elected members of our party.” Vivek Pandit-led Jan Andolan Samiti participated in the elections of Vasai Virar Mahanagarpalika from 38 zones and won 19. Out of 48 wards the Congress contested, it won mere two.
As concern to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), they even fail to open their account from any of the 46 zones at which they participated in elections, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) became champion on one ward out of the 17 contested. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena became the champion in mere single ward out of 17 contested, while Shiv Sena won from 3 wards out of 40. Independents won in 8 wards.
As several 383 applicants spread over 89 zones had participated in the Virar Mahanagarpalika 2010 elections. One applicant of Bahujan Vikas Agadhi was announced elected without any opposition. The election happened on Sunday with approximately 43% of the 6.5 lakh electorate exercising their franchise, as per the election officers. Located on the outskirts of north Mumbai, the Vasai taluka had 4 municipal councils — Vasai, Nala Sopara, Virar and Navghar-Manickpur — and 72 gram panchayats.
In the elections of Virar Mahanagarpalika 2010, there were 603 polling centers with near about 3,500 polling staff-members on duty. They were all terminated & the municipal corporation was formed on 3rd July 2009. Bahujan Vikas Agadhi Party became the winner of the 1st ever election to the Vasai Virar Mahanagarpalika 2010 elections, based on the outer edged of North Mumbai, gaining 55 of the 89 zones.
