ISLAMABAD : August 14 is the Independence Day of Pakistan. On Wednesday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani, has announced that this Independence Day, their country would celebrate the big event in simplicity considering the expenditure to be used for floods which have been on their due course of devastation.

The government is trying every possible effort to help its people, claims Gilani.
During the special meeting of his Cabinet, The Prime Minister has commented upon the development regarding the rescue operations and the comprehensive rehabilitation strategy to solve the damage the rains and floods have caused.

Pakistan has never had such a condition since the past 80 years. Gilani has asked all “quarters to make every possible effort to cut down expenditures, avoid holding of Iftar parties during Ramadhan, celebrate August 14 with simplicity and contribute generously towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund” in order to be of help to the victims in the flood affected areas.

1500 people have lost their lives to the floods and around 3.2 million people are affected which hit suddenly in Kyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces. The agricultural lands also have been ruined. The floods have caused a great disturbance to the economy of the country starting from the crops.

The Prime Minister has asked of the National Disaster Management Authority to help out the people in the flood affected regions and also suggest plans to carry out damage assessment.
