South Delhi has finally managed to bag a place in the national capital’s metro map with the Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar route commencing its operation on 3rd September. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the new line shall be inaugurated jointly by Union urban development minister Jaipal Reddy and Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit on Friday afternoon.
The line was earlier partially operational from Gurgaon’s HUDA City Centre to Qutab Minar in South Delhi. Now, the line shall also include areas such as Jor Bagh, AIIMS, Green Park, Hauz Khas, Saket and Vasant Kunj in South Delhi. Apart from these locations, the new stretch also benefits places like Chandni Chowk, Chauri Bazaar and Gaffar Market in Karol Bagh.
The new route promises to connect Gurgaon to Central Delhi in about 45 minutes and is expected to cater to around 1 lakh commuters daily, as per the DMRC estimates. The operation of the stretch was delayed due to non availability of clearance certificates. It was supposed to commence in month of August earlier. The approvals were obtained at the end of last month. The Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar covers 12.53 kilometres, with nine underground stations. The fare from Gurgaon to Central Secretariat shall be Rs. 25. Metro Rout Map
