Orkut
The ‘Bom Sabado’ worm which had hacked through millions of Orkut accounts is now removed by Google. Google released a statement in their blog which notified all users that the worm Bom Sabado has been dealt with & Orkut is safe for now.
“Hi all,
This is to inform you all that we’ve contained the “Bom Sabado” virus and have identified the bug that allowed this and have fixed it.
We’re currently working on restoring the affected profiles.
Thanks a ton to each of you who’s made an effort to alert everyone else about this. I’ll make sure to keep you guys posted on more updates”
The worm Bom Sabado which has a very ironic translation into Portuguese meaning ‘Good Saturday’ had affected the social networking site Orkut on Saturday 25th September. The worm did nothing like post malicious links, rather it just left scraps from the infected account to every friend’s scrapbook.
The scrap read simply ‘Bom Sabado’. So the unwary users just viewed the scraps & then the worm affected their cache memory leaving them infected.
Google had asked the Orkut users to not login for a while and refresh their browser cookies & cache. It was also advisable to change the password and the security question as well.
Many users were however unfortunate enough to be online when the Bom Sabado worm attacked leaving their accounts hacked. Google has promised to look into this matter and try and fix the hacked profiles in Orkut.

yesterday when i got attacked by virus Bom Sabado..i changed my password and deleted all such scraps..but there are few communities which get added in my profile automatically..now what should i do ???

How to remove the communities? Plz anyone help me i can’t unjoin the new dirty virus communities
to unjoin communities in orkut just click on the community u wish to unjoin. u’ll get an option on leftt margin saying “unjoin”. click the “unjoin” option to remove the community.
I request google to take legal action against the orkut hacker..
Don’t talk on behalf of google… there is not confirmation from google regarding fixing this virus. How can you publish that. You can be sued if you dont remove this post… be careful
My profile was also hacked and I was unable to use Orkut. When I was opening Orkut, the browser page was hanged.
Thanks to Google that the bug is fixed and everything is okay now.

I was also surprised to see bom sabado as a scrap message by one of my friends. As i have accessed yesterday through mobile while viewing that scrap, i think the virus attack has not affected my profile.
Anyways thanks for the Orkut team for addressing the security flaw at the earliest.
I cannot open my account, both gmail and orkut. showing that invalid user name and password. What will I do?
i was really shocked to c my orkut account….6 portuguese language communities wer added in my account and also got scraps as bom sabado…..can i use the account further?

Orkut appears to be fixed for now.The XSS cross scripting problem has been fixed.Those who were using the older version may not have that much problem but new Orkut users have suffered.Best option is to reset the password by logging in to Google account & then remove the communities.If your account is already hacked try recovering it with your recovery email id.
